Goodbye 2013.... Bonjour 2014

My Christmas on Instagram
Wrapping gifts, gingerbread latte's, reindeer jumpers and gifts from Santa

Christmas really crept up on me this year (most of my Christmas shopping was done a mere two days before Christmas) guessing that's due to my busy schedule.
I just love Christmas, starting with tree trimming and mulled wine, receiving gifts from Santa, time with family and friends, that traditional church visit and singing Christmas carols. I just love to get the festivities in full swing.
Plenty of Christmas movies have been watched (ask my boyfriend he's defiantly had enough of watching Home Alone on repeat). But whats the season without Elf, Home Alone 1&2 and Trading Places.
Copious amounts of wine and champagne has been drank, dancing around my sisters kitchen to the best Christmas songs was involved. Santa was also kind to me this year bringing me some beautiful gifts, candles, make-up, The Sartorialist Closer, a book I've been wanting for some time and the most gorgeous lime green coat which will brighten up any cold, dark winter day.
I hope you Christmas has been as special as mine and Santa remembered to fill your stockings with wonderful surprises.

2013 has been a great year, its been a time for change, starting university and meeting new people. Writing on this blog has been the best part, I've really got into the swing of writing freely and passionately about everything that I love in and out of the fashion world.
Next stop 2014, time for a fresh start? Maybe make a resolution? I really do try but only to fail two days in. Oh I do have one, to learn a Language, French being my chosen one. Weather or not I will succeed is the question at hand but whats one to know without trying.

Happy 2014

Fashion News: The Ban of Angora Fur

stock angora baby

Take a look at this beautiful, timid and helpless animal, this is the Angora Rabbit and the production of Angora fur has been in the news recently.
An investigation by PETA, has revealed how these animals have been treated just to produce clothes.

"Angora, which is used to make gloves, sweaters, hats and scarves, comes from the fur of long-haired angora rabbits, and 90 per cent of angora wool is produced in China, where PETA Asia’s recent investigation has revealed that workers often rip the fur from the rabbits’ skin in handfuls while they’re conscious. As you would imagine, these timid animals are in agony while this happens." (Source: http://blog.peta.org.uk/2013/12/more-stores-stop-angora-production-thanks-new-look-and-esprit/)

I am personally saddened to say I own a jumper that contains Angora fur, thinking of how these animals have been treated  just for fashion is unbelievably disgusting. I couldn't bring myself to watch the video filmed by PETA of the happenings in the Asian factories.

With today's advances in fiber production it's crazy to think we even need to wear real fur. However if some do feel the need Angora should be produced with the animal's welfare in mind.
I am pleased to say a variety of retailers including H&M, New Look and Espirit have stopped the production of Angora Fur until "credible certification and proof that it complies with according policies on animal welfare" are in place. (Source: http://blog.peta.org.uk/2013/12/more-stores-stop-angora-production-thanks-new-look-and-esprit/).

Lets hope what has now been brought to our attention makes us think twice when purchasing a garment made with Angora fur, at least till we have proof that our beautiful furry friends are being treated with care and love, its only what they deserve.

Walking in a Winter Wonderland

Yes, on Sunday I actually had a day off.... from work, uni, and anything else that happens in what feels like my 24-7 non-stop life.
After a few hours of studying in the morning me and my boyfriend went for a stroll around my local woods. All wrapped up in my winter apparel (cable knit jumper and trusty 200 denier tights), I strolled around the woods taking some lovely photo's of the wintery surroundings. I just love this time of year the world looks so raw and stripped back, natural.
I rather awkwardly posed (avoiding dog walkers) for a few outfit photographs, something I have wanted to do for sometime and just haven't had the chance. A little embarrassed at first but I enjoyed it and I am pleased with the outcome.
What would one do without a willing boyfriend (thank you Mark) and a handy camera.
I look forward to sharing more of my styling with you.
Enjoy

Trend Notes:The Sweater

Kenzo, A/W13
Givenchy, A/W13

Winter is well and truly here and its freezing.........
I've been layering up, even with coats and adding extra warmth with scarfs, gloves and my favourite hats (I own many variety's).
The A/W13 fashions show seem like many moons ago but with a flick through my fave fashion website, style.com I'm reunited with enough fashion and trends advice any girl could dream of.
After dreaming my way through a variety of shows and finding some great pieces to talk about I spotted a great trend.....The Sweater.
The Kenzo sweater has been on my radar for a while now even showing my boyfriend how much I love it ,hint hint #christmasiscoming. Many of the fashion glitterati have styled the Kenzo sweater well....a bright sweater and a bright mini skirt is all one needs to catch someones attention.
As for the Givenchy number, who doesn't love a gorgeous sweater with our cutest Disney Character splashed across the front, Bambi.
More of the fashion pack on the street....

The sweater has gained a cult-like status for the winter ahead! Camel has finally ousted black from being the fashion packs colour of choice!
A candy pink fluffy skirt teamed with a navy blue knit, if we had an outfit this cute we’d also be talking about it.
A flippy skirt is always a safe choice to combine with your statement sweat.

The Flat

Long gone is the high heel.....Yes, fashion and comfort have united and brought us this seasons must have, The Flat.
They come in all shapes, colours, prints and fabrics. A favourite of mine patent and leopard print.
Thank you River Island for designing these beautiful shoes. Flat, check, black, check, patent, check and only £28 they're within my student budget.
Team your flats with a knee length skirt and ankle socks or keep out the cold with tights (I love 200 deniers )
Look out for these in my next OOTD (Outfit of the Day) post. I've finally got a day off this coming Sunday and plan on taking some great outfit snaps.

Happy 1st Birthday Blog!

I really can't believe my little blog is celebrating it's first birthday!!! That has definitely been the fastest year of my life, and I have loved every minute of it. Writing this blog has been so much fun, I've combined my two passions of fashion and writing and created something I'm really proud of.
Here's to many more years of blogging!
Thank you Faye x

The Stament Ring vs The delicate Ring

Rings, Claire's Accessories

Recently I've started to stir more towards jewellery (still rocking the 5 gem earing) especially rings.
I don't have the most graceful hands but with a coat of pale nail colour and a beautiful collection of rings on my fingers they seem to look somewhat ( a little) better.
So today I've been mixing a statement piece with somewhat more delicate pieces. This little pinky ring is just gorgeous and so cute. I also love how these three different sized rings in different places work so well together. With my paler skin I prefer to stick to the same colour of silver but why not have fun and mix metals. They really have set today's outfit off, boots, ripped jeans, cosy jumper and over-sized parker, winter is well and truly here and I'm loving it.
Here's a few more jewellery gems I found online.

Christopher Kane s/s14

So many fashion shows so little time, or least that's how it felt this s/s14 season. That many shows in fact, many were missed. Including the amazing Christopher Kane.....
I've loved the designs of Christopher Kane since I ever set my eyes on them. Every season he offers something, unique, new and exciting. I love them that much I'm still dreaming of owning one of his liquid infused clutches which he showed back in Fall 11.
This s/s14 was all about holographic, shoes, dresses and detailed inserts.....oh the details. So elegant yet they gave a garment that futuristic look and I loved, loved, loved the shoes. Keep your eyes peeled for them in this video. Enjoy

Notes:
Dear Santa, I would love anything from the Christopher Kane s/s14 show.

The New Earing Trend

So it seems all the rage today to have many piercings in your ears, so far I've only dared to have the first two party because after that its cartilage and being a bit of a scaredy cat I'm afraid it will hurt. Anyway I found this amazing earing at Claire's that looks like five piercings in one....Cool. So now I get the look without the pain.
They come in many colours, I opted for this rose gem edition but they're also avaliable in clear crystal and pearl. I just love to experiment! (Next stop nose piercing eek!)

Unidays

So its official I'm now a Fashion Buying student at the University of Huddersfield!
Its been a long summer so I've been eager for this week to come. My first week has involved introducing myself to the group something I've always hated. I'm not great at speaking in confined spaces (at least not on my first day). Next up library induction, you all know how much I love the library and I have to say the fashion floor is even bigger and better than at College (they have back issues of Vogue all the way to the 1920's).
Wednesday involved a visit to the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester to research texture, shape, print and colour ready for my first assignment, creating a garment out of non traditional materials. Ideas so far include seal-able bags with food colouring and lots of leaflets from freshers fair...should be fun. The rest of the week involved more inductions, canteen food and a trip round Huddersfield checking out Byram Arcade a cute shopping arcade filled with arty shops and vintage boutiques.
So far I'm loving my new place of study bring on week two.....

#LFW

For some reason London Fashion Week Spring/Summer14 seems bigger and bolder this year. Its EVERYWHERE, newspapers, magazines and every social media site possible. This could be to do with the fact that I am a member of most of them and I just love it, Facebook, twitter, instagram and blogs galore.
I can get my daily fix on the move, just yesterday I watched the Topshop Unique S/S14 show whilst on my daily train journey to work. It really did brighten up a dull and rather cold Sunday morning.

When it comes to fashion, LFW offers the 'cream of the crop' and this season it was all about COLOUR. When it comes to the fashion season I do prefer the Autumn/Winter shows, but this season gave me something to look forward to. Next S/S14 (even me with my very pale skin) will be donning colour, thanks to Topshop Unique and Holly Fulton it will probably be bright blues and jewel oranges. LOVE.

So that time of season has arrived again

Rodarte, 3.1 Philip Lim, DKNY and Micheal Kors
Images Sourced style.com

So that time of season has arrived again, yes I'm talking about fashion season! As always kicking off in New York last week, the Spring/Summer14 fashion shows have thrown out a very eclectic mix.
When I think of fashion season there are many things that come to mind, yes of course the clothes but also the hair, make up, setting, front row characters and how I wish I was back stage dressing models and being involved in all the hype and excitement.  Fashion season really does bring so much enjoyment, even if its only through my little laptop.
Having been constantly browsing fashion and style websites (oh and instagram) to get my latest fix from New York. I couldn't wait to share a few of my favourite pieces with you.
From Rodarte to 3.1 Philip Lim and DKNY to Micheal Kors I've loved so many of the shows from New York this season. As always 3.1 Philip Lim gave us, modern, futuristic style with a clean crisp edge. The sporty girl came out to play at DKNY (I love the printed trainers). Rodarte re-visited the 1980's with very short shorts and lots of leopard print and finally Micheal Kors showed gorgeous lady like summer pieces but with a twist, lots of added textures, fluffy cardigans and fur shawls.
Next stop for fashion season LONDON woop!!

Trend Notes Autumn/Winter 13 - The Rebel

Saint Laurent A/W13
As the Autumn/Winter season approaches, I wanted to show you a few more of my favourite pieces from The Rebel trend that graced the A/W13 catwalks.

The rebel girl has confidence, attitude and effortless style, she really has that just thrown on look but still looks great! Saint Laurent by Hedi Slimane showed some amazing rebel girl pieces. Fur coats were worn with high waisted underwear (very sexy if I do say so myself) and lots of leather jackets and even more plaid shirts (steel one from your boyfriends wardrobe I do, the baggier the better) and gorgeous grungy dresses but in dark and muted tones, again just totally effortless.

My key piece for the rebel trend would be the perfect pair of biker boots. A chunky sole, black leather and lots of buckles. They add that grungy look to just about anything, I love a pair that I purchased in the ASOS sale a few months back and the more I wear them the better they look.
After flicking through countless magazines and websites (don't worry I loved every minute of it) I found some perfect rebel trend pieces all available to buy on the high street! Happy shopping!!
