New York fashion week - street style trends we can try in real life

It’s fashion month! Hooray!  It’s also the AW18 shows which makes it all the more exciting. Autumn/winter dressing is my favourite, I’m guessing this comes down to it being constantly cold here in the north of the UK and the fact I’m very pale and never get a tan and come summer, I struggle to disguise this.
So far the New York shows have offered up some amazing pieces and I feel like I’ve fallen in love with fashion all over again, but more on that later.
Today it’s about the street style! Yes, I know fashion week is about the designs coming down the runways but over the last 10 years those entering the shows have offered us similar exciting, inspiring and (sometimes) wearable fashion trends we can try in real life.
I constantly use street style as my source of inspiration and fashion weeks in New York, London, Milan and Paris brings together stylish individuals from all over the globe. Each portray their own personal style using different fashion pieces in creative and beautiful ways.
Street style doesn’t have to always represent what is trending but what people love and feel comfortable in, which is what fashion is all about. It can often also be a brilliant way to spot emerging future trends too. These are my favourites so far.

You can wear ruffles without looking like a flamenco dancer.

top (here) | Zara. jeans (here) and scarf | Topshop

Ruffles are everywhere this fast approaching SS16 season. Way back in September when the spring/summer shows took place the likes of Mary Katrantzou (a long term favourite of mine), Marques Almeida and Roberto Cavalli all created amazing pieces with ruffles at the heart of their collections. Fast forward a few months and ruffles are all over the high street, letting us all show our love for the trend no matter what our budget.  Back to the catwalk though - because let's face it the originals always do it the best! Marquez Amelda went for dramatic, shredded ruffles while Mary Katrantzou went for a more laid back minimal look with structured layers.
And here is my (off the catwalk/ on the street) version, not looking too much like a flamenco dancer because come on that's what we imagine when we think Ruffles, either that or 1980's wedding dresses!

It's all about street style

Fashion month is officially over so I figured what better way to celebrate then taking a look back at what the fashion glitterati wore to the shows.

An eclectic mix of style could only be found in London.

Getting creative, or at least trying

Shirt | Urban Outfitters (boyfriends). Jeans (here), Shoes (similar here) & Bag (similar here) | Topshop

I say getting creative what I mean is putting on a shirt backwards, but hey I'm always trying to differentiate the way I style up my/the boyfriends wardrobe staples. This is definitely different but I have to say I love it!
This weekend I also tried this look with a cotton striped shirt and skinny jeans which probably worked better due to the softer fabric but I just love a denim on denim ensemble. The look is finished off with these beautiful Topshop snake print platforms that give it that added (hot trend of the season) 70's vibe.

Man Repelling

Shirt | Next. Jeans | Topshop. Shoes | Marks and Spencer.

I say Man Repelling due to my current obsession with Leandra Medine aka the Man Repeller. If you haven't checked out her blog Man Repeller I suggest you do - she's definitely on the money concerning all things current and she gets top marks from me for style.
What is a man repeller you might ask, well according to the blog -
'she who outfits herself in a sartorially offensive mode that may result in repelling members of the opposite sex. Such garments include but are not limited to harem pants, boyfriend jeans, overalls, shoulder pads, full length jumpsuits, jewelry that resembles violent weaponry and clogs.'
If you are already aware of Leandra and her impeccable style you will note her inspiration of the above outfit. Oversized shirt, check, flared jeans, check, clogs, check! I don't think anyone can carry off personal style the way she does but we can all try - I know I am!

Is it Autumn yet?

Jumper (here), Bag (here) and Jeans (here) | Topshop. Shoes | Superga (here)

I've already started to get ready for the autumn/winter season by investing in a few classic pieces starting with - the jumper. I did inform you of my dream jumper by Zara but unfortunately by the time pay day rolled by it was out of stock *note to self - anytime you see something in Zara buy immediately. However I did manage to find this not so little number in Topshop. It ticks all the boxes fluffy - check, oversized - check, roll neck - check....the list goes on.
The season isn't just where I want it to be (a very thick jumper in early September was rather warm) but the leaves have started falling so not long now (fingers crossed).

In the light

Jacket and Skirt | H&M. Top | Topshop. Trainers | Nike

Sometimes you have those days when you choose and outfit and in your head you think it looks great but in reality it turns out rather different. So I'm sure you've clicked on to the fact that I'm not 100 percent sure on this outfit. The black and white photos however have turned out rather great so I thought I'd share them with you.
Happy Monday...

Superga Love

 Shoes | Superga

So I finally got my hands on a pair of Superga's and I have to say they are even better than I imagined. Such a simple yet stylish shoe, something like this could have only been designed in Italy. There's something about Italian style, relaxed and comfortable but effortlessly cool and I'm pretty sure they would look even better perched on the back of a Vespa.

The Trench

Trench | H&M. Shirt | Zara. Jeans and Boots | Topshop. Bag | Kurt Geiger.

Although the sun is actually shinning as I write this post, it has been playing hide and seek recently (all I can say is my trusty umbrella has been used far too much). This gave me the idea to finally purchase that much needed trench coat. It seems bloggers and fashion lovers everywhere have been loving the trench too. Firstly I thought black was the right colour but then I figured navy would look better and who said navy and black don't work. Now I'll look forward to styling it up with many sartorial items for the next few months (I know summer is supposed to be upon us but this is England remember).

Sartorial through the camera lens

The Sartorialist by Scott Schuman was the first great photography blog I ever came across. You can see everything though his camera lens. Fashion, life, art......to name a few. Originally for me it was always about the clothes but after 4 years of following it has turned into something else, reading both his books may have impacted on this. Yes the clothes are still amazing, the people still stylish, but there's just something else about them....he captures something natural, something real.

'My interest is never to report on what people are wearing but in capturing my romantic take on what I have seen on the street. I find myself wanting to understand these individuals better. The result is the introduction of more tightly composed portraits that bring me closer to the true essence of the person whilst still capturing them as stylish subjects.'
Scott Schuman, The Sartorialist

After flicking through The Sartorialist Closer for many hours over the past couple of months. I have found some great images to love.

The Sartorialist is a must see, take a peak here

A Beautiful Blue Door

T-Shirt, Jumper, Jeans and Bag | Topshop. Boots | ASOS. Parka | River Island

Taking photographs this weekend seemed like an impossible task, one minute the sun was out the next pouring with rain and at one point HAIL.
Some how between work and rain/hail showers these great shots were taken. As a student I don't have that endless wardrobe full of amazing clothes I would love....but I do try and mix it up.
I went for a trusty all black outfit, as they say if nothing else works.
I've been wanting to don these biker boots in a post for a while now and as I'm still channeling the Autumn|Winter 13 grunge trend I thought these were perfect (plus I'm still dreaming about the Saint Laurent by Hedi Slimane show, yes that was over a year ago now). Also Spring|Summer 14 is just around the corner and I'm making the most of it.
Speaking of Spring I've just purchased my first piece of Topshop Unique, a pair of gorgeous Mules. Yes the Mule is back. Only a few more days and I will be one very happy girl. Keep Posted!
p.s. How beautiful is this blue door??
