All the hard work was really worth it

So as my college years come to an end (sob), I realise all the hard work was really worth it (see above, all designed and hand made by me).

The final part of the process was completed on Monday evening when my collection went down the college fashion show runway (I will admit a few tears were shed).
Its been an amazing two years, filled with hard work, lots of giggles and some very bizarre conversations. Girls well done...We did it!!

Well onwards and upwards...Next stop Fashion Buying and Management at The University of Huddersfield. Eek....

News - Primark launches online via ASOS

I love twitter, its great to find out all the goings on in the fashion world and I recently re-tweeted a very interesting tweet from @BritishVogue

I was very surprised to find out that Primark is now available to buy online via asos.com, 'a very limited trial' of just 20 pieces went on sale from the 5th June. The womenswear pieces range from tee's, denim jackets and dungarees to prom dresses (I love the spotty crop top). 
I myself think this is a great idea, yes not all will agree but Primark offers on trend pieces at low prices and with the climate we are in everyone loves a bargain.

'A spokesperson told the Guardian that the launch would give the high street store some insight in to online retailing'.

The Silver Shoe

Silver shoes, they seem to be everywhere at the minute. From high heeled pointy courts to block heeled strappy sandals. 

Silver just seems to be one of those colours that can be worn with anything, bold colours (orange and red are my favourites), black or white.

After finding so many amazing silver shoes I found ‘the ones’. These beautiful silver courts by Kurt Geiger have a petite ankle strap and the very now ‘block heel’ they are definitely the ones for me. Any outfit would look fantastic with these shoes. The only problem is the price tag and at £125 I’m not sure my part time student wage will stretch (sob).

I will just have to hope and pray they go into the summer sale. Until then I can just dream…..

News - Disasters in Bangladesh

We all heard the sad news about the collapse of the garment factory in Bangladesh two weeks ago. More than 900 people lost their lives in this terrible accident, an accident that could have been prevented. I have now heard just this morning about a factory fire killing eight innocent people in the same city (Dhaka). Garment workers are working in terrible conditions for much less than minimum wage and they are now risking their lives.

‘The disaster has renewed concerns about the often deadly working conditions in Bangladesh’s £12.8bn garment industry, which provides clothing for major retailers around the world’.

However something is finally going to be done about the safety of those who make the clothes we wear. The clothing we take for granted, not thinking about where they have come from or what risks have been taken to make them.  I was so pleased to read this article on avazz.org about different brands starting with Calvin Klein, signing a very strong building and safety pact. Many other brands are thought to sign the pact very soon including Gap and H&M. If this strong pact can be formed it will hopefully save lives and stop our garment factory workers being injured in such disasters.

This week I'm reading.....Harpers Bazaar Greatest Hits

One of my favourite things to do whilst being a student is wandering around the fashion and photography department of my college library. Yes it might sound a little geeky but I love the large and pretty fantastic selection of books and journals (Lulu and i-D are my favourites) and I'm forever been seen carrying around the heaviest books they have.

Whilst browsing the fashion photography section last week I came across this amazing book 'Harpers Bazaar Greatest Hits by Glenda Bailey, 2011'. It has some of the most amazing photo shoots and magazine covers the magazine has ever made. Photo shoots with the likes of Sarah Jessica Parker through to Barack Obama, created by photographers including Patrick Demarchelier and Peter Lindbergh.

I particularly love Sarah Jessica Parker channelling Harper’s Bazaar legend Diana Vreeland with her 'Why Don't you?'

'Keep a bucket filled with Candy. Cheap candy, it will scratch the itch'. 

'Use your local library, so few people do anymore'.

I love the candy one, it’s very me....
